Marcel-Jan chose the open source world after 20 years of experience with data and Oracle products. He can build on his experience with performance tuning and security in the finance industry, but also retail and regular IT management. Now, he focuses on Hadoop as his specialty.
Marcel-Jan is a real troubleshooter, but has also performed as product manager and teacher. In his Oracle period he obtained hacking skills and learned about the risks in IT systems. To explain those risks to others, he developed and presented a 1 day workshop called “hack your own database”. He found out that many colleagues had problems selling the security subject to their management. Therefore, he presented “How to sell security” at two international congresses.
My name is Roonak Babakhani. I am an industrial design engineer, specialized in Human Factors Engineering (HFE). As a professional I have been using my knowledge of human factors and ergonomics within the IT field as a UX researcher and designer.
I love solving puzzles and problems. Preferably, in collaboration with other professionals to find the best possible solutions. I strive to see the world through users’ point of view by studying and analysing their routines, needs and motivations. Using qualitative research methods and analysing quantitative data, I find out what users’ journeys are and how to optimize products and services to accommodate their needs.
My researches focus on understanding users and find the right intersection between technology, daily life and business objectives. In other words, implementing design thinking in each project. This requires a holistic approach to the challenge at hand and the context it’s within. This approach results in insights which usually contributes to more than one solution to address stakeholders’ objectives with different compositions of possibilities.
You can count on me as a UX- and/or usability researcher and a sparring partner for your projects.

Senior Test Engineer & Analist
Jan has been working in the IT industry for the last 23 years. In the first 10 years as an Oracle developer he formed the basis for his technical know-how and his knowledge of generic software development. He is driven by his strong skills in analysis and his goal to be able to offer good and solid solutions for his customers. Doing so, Jan has developed into a Senior Test Engineer and Analyst. His affinity with technology is useful when working in (setting up) automated testing, in thinking of ways of technical implementations and in testing complex technical solutions.
Due to these traits, he has proven to be successful in bridging the gap between business and IT teams in the professional services industry and in the energy sector. When Jan became aware of Scrum/Agile in 2010, it was clear to him that this would be the best way to combine his knowledge and expertise. He thrives in an environment where he can be a participant, or where is able to guide a self-supporting team as a certified Scrum master in order to improve himself or the team.
